Citizens for Township Democracy Meeting Agenda

Your hosts: Phil Robinson, Timonthy Monet, and Paul Bertrand.

10:00 – Introduction

Thank you all for coming. We are a collection of residents who believe voting on big issues is the way the Township should conduct its business. They work for us!

Our purpose is to set the tone for the future while pointing out some of the legal aspects and “supposed” science within the township’s 2-year support of a 100-plus million, (nobody really knows???), lake-wide sewer project proposal.

The info we present today has been repeatedly, officially given to the townships and ignored!!! Our voice has not been considered of worth. Emails are rarely answered, and if answered, follow-up questions are not answered. This is not acceptable for an elected official!

Now The Twp. wants to start the tax collecting to keep their flawed sewer dream afloat (they could not get State or Federal support, 2 years in a row, and the project has no science or population benefit).

The time for discussion with GLUA or GLUA supporters on the Twp. boards are over. We will take the narrative to others who will listen. The board’s chance to do the right thing might yet come again.

10:20-ish Phil Robinson will speak on the Twp. Property and Catholic Church sewer support shenanigans.

Petitions deception, faulty count, wasting our money, open meeting act violations, ignoring fixed income, lying about financing, wasting our money, and more.

St Hubert’s decided to sign all the Church property as being in support of the STEP SEWER. After several meetings, the Gaylord Diocese Bishop Walsh has agreed that they should have remained neutral, but will not rescind the support petition! The Church property is huge compared to others, and the support petition percentage is over 50%. The Church is now attempting to dodge this issue instead of simply resolving it. It will likely go viral and harm the Catholic Church’s reputation across Northern Michigan.

Copies of the email exchanges from Bishop Walsh and Father Eke are posted today in the Hall for pictures if desired. They are on the contact sheet.

Questions and comments.

10:45   Phil will lead a gathering outside for a walkabout protest of the Twp. Property, including the Cemetery to visit with old veterans and friends who now somehow supported a 115-million-dollar STEP SEWER??

Those not interested in the fresh air can remain inside and commiserate, discuss, and look at the material we posted and supplied.

11:30 Gather back around inside for a second introduction of the three hosts.

11:45 Paul will give a presentation on PA 188.

We want to explain to everyone here that we do not agree with the use of PA188. But we are here to tell you it is in place to stay!! The only chance to defeat it is within its design. We will no longer waste time on being mad about it or trying to change it in Lansing. Not happening! So let’s move forward and discuss what we CAN DO within PA188 to STOP GLUA!! Questions and discussion.

12:00 Richard Shoemaker, Retired Senior Environmental Quality Analyst

MDNR Surface Water Quality Division MDEQ Water Bureau

Richard was kind enough to do a presentation on Water Quality and the lack of real GLUA science!!

EGLE CLMP data for over 20 years has used a true 4-step scientific method to record Higgins Lake’s water quality. It is excellent and remains so. There is no “Nutrient Overload” crisis! Tip of the Mitt Watershed Council just completed the first half of their study and came to the same conclusion. The floating goo in the lake, spring, and early summer, is a northern Michigan lake occurrence and likely a result of many factors, climate change and warmer winters included. It is called FLAB. We will also discuss Dr. Luttenton’s claims of mussels eating all the Higgins Lake nutrients and “dangerous” pharma levels.

We will go over all this and more. There is no need for a lake-wide sewer, the first step should be septic ordinances around the lake and further study. Questions and discussion.

12:30 Paul will do an update on GLUA lack of FINANCING.

GLUA is flat broke! They now want your money to stay afloat after failing to secure any funding from the state of USDA for two years. Funding allocation merit has changed and will continue to not favor GLUA.

We will update reality and show you recent (this week) email proof (nothing from CWSRF for the foreseeable future/USDA is a minimal amount at best and 1 ½ -2 years out…. maybe!! Now do you see why GLUA must start taxing us?? Remember when this sewer was going to be free??

The septic ordinance is a GLUA plot??? Questions and discussion.

1:00 Timonthy will do an update on the status of the petition.

We want everyone to understand that the Townships can continue to collect support petitions and we will continue to try and inform those in the SAD’s who have not petitioned yet…to NOT sign them! We will show irregularities in the petitions and a lack of serious validation of petitions that will likely drop them back under 50% support. The Twp. is trying to reach 60% to counter what they may lose to irregularities. This issue is not even close to being settled yet. Questions and discussion.

1:15 Timonthy will do an update on the Legal status.

There are finally some legal avenues being taken. Timonthy will explain that in detail.

1:30   Fundraising

To support both the legal and no more yes sewer support petition efforts we have now put in place, it will take money!
